Britain Proposes Co-Productions with Overseas Movie Companies

The British government is inviting film companies in South Africa, China, India, Jamaica and Morocco to join in co-productions with British studios. Following a meeting with the South African Minister for Arts and Culture, Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell remarked that the government is drafting treaties that would allow foreign companies to work together with those in Britain, something she said that could be "vitally important to the expansion of the U.K. film industry. ... Movie making has always been a global business. Pooling talent and expertise is increasingly important to enable all those involved in the film industry to compete on a world stage."
