EU may get a uniform film classification system

The EU is considering the prospect of applying the same film classification system in all its member states. Robin Duval, Director of the British Board of Film Classification, finds the idea impractical, as the level of film acceptability varies greatly from nation to nation. He gives examples of several nations: the French place importance on the filmÿs cultural value, the age limits being often lower than in other countries, while the British are the most sensitive to bad language. The Scandinavians, unlike the Spanish, are least sensitive to sex and most to violence on the screen. However, the plan is still in its early stages and no specific steps have been taken yet.
