Recent Changes in the Major Film Industry

Being aware of the changes is vital for the industry executives. We know well of the split rights being more prevalent, leaving less space for the pre-sale focused producers. What else is changing? Changes in the formal approaches to certain studios, changes in writing a pitch, changes in calculating grosses. If you know, I hope you will share.

I am sure it is important to know these things when you are in the industry. Well, I think, one just needs to reed the trades, and talk to his fellow partners and competitors. I think a lot of people would be afraid to give you insider information, that's just how it is. When you are inside you want to stay there, when you are out, it is fun telling the anecdotes, "grandmas gross" stories. But when you constantly read Daily Variety, Hollywood Reporter, you will get a good idea, where the business is headed.

"Most people tend to look at the industry in terms of TV coverage, and to them it is still all happiness and lots of fun and laughs," Jack Kyser, chief economist and vice president at the nonprofit business development group, told today's Los Angeles Daily News. "But the industry is going through some major changes that nobody is talking about."
